Greening Commercial Property: Landlord vs Tenant? The Big Debate

EVENT:

Greening Commercial Property: Landlord and vs Tenant? The Big Debate

Following the very positive response of Property Week's recent debate ‘Greening Commercial Property – Mission Impossible?’ in March, they have pleasure in extending the debate online to hear wider industry views on how to move forward and deliver greener buildings, in particular on the issue of landlord tenant divide.

Non-domestic buildings account for almost a fifth of the UK’s carbon emissions. Yet progress made towards greener buildings by the industry has been limited. One key issue is the landlord and tenant divide, where landlords bear the cost of making efficiency improvements but tenants reap the benefits in the form of lower energy costs, creating a barrier for immediate action.

But evidence is emerging that greener buildings are starting to make business sense, and with government legislation such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, pressure on landlords and tenants to reduce carbon emission from their buildings have never been greater.

In this online debate, discussion is invited on:

  • How landlords and tenants can work more closely to achieve their "green" aim
  • The barriers that they both face
  • Current thoughts on the business case for greener buildings

Chair: Giles Barrie, Editor, Property Week

Panellists include:

  • Julian Lyon, European Real Estate, GM Worldwide Real Estate
  • Paul Harrington, Real Estate Director at PWC and President, CoreNet Global
