Restoring the Reputation of our Cities

EVENT:

Invited speakers from Government, leading think tanks, Parliament and the major cities are set to gather in London for the first in-depth debate on how we recapture the reputation of Britain's cities. The event is being jointly hosted by Weber Shandwick and the leading property weekly Estates Gazette, which is set to launch a campaign to kick start regeneration in our cities.

Since the 1980s, our cities have undergone a progressive regeneration, seeing major improvements in the built environment, transportation and community facilities. The transformation has led to a major increase in the international standing of our cities, with London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow all ranked in the European top 30.

Recent disturbances have put all that at stake, with the power of the media amplifying the threat to the reputation of the normally buzzing, peaceful, cosmopolitan and fashionable British city.

How do we rebuild physical and human capital in our cities? How do we communicate everything that is good about our urban centres? How do we keep places safe and prosperous, without losing our urban 'edge'?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed at this unique event, which is free to attend.

The panel will feature:

  • Andrew Carter, Director of Policy & Research, Centre for Cities
  • Chris Murray, Director, Core Cities
  • Tony Travers, Director of the Greater London group at the London School of Economics
  • Damian Wild, Editor, Estates Gazette

Breakfast will be served from 8am.
