The BPF has appointed a new director for finance and investment.
Peter Cosmetatos, a tax lawyer in the real estate group at Wragge & Co will join the BPF next week to replace Gareth Lewis, who leaves at the end of May.
Peter worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for 10 years before joining Wragge & Co in 2007.
He said:
"I am looking forward to the challenges afforded by working with the property industry at the highest level to influence Government policy and its implementation, and to shape the future of the industry. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to improve the legislative and fiscal environment in which the industry operates, not least by using the technical expertise I have gained working on complex commercial transactions as a property and finance tax lawyer.
"Despite the difficult current market, this is an exciting time for the industry with a wealth of opportunities for new investment, for REITs, for build-to-let and most of all for shaping our green agenda, and I am very much looking forward to working across the board on all these issues."
Liz Peace, chief executive of the BPF, said: "Peter joins the BPF at a crucial time. There are many challenges that lie ahead for the industry. But I have no doubt that he will ensure our continued success at representing real estate issues to Government at the highest level.
"Gareth Lewis been an asset to the industry, and in his two and a half years at the BPF, has made a significant contribution to shaping a better legislative landscape for all. We wish him all the very best in his new role at EPRA."
