Ian Fletcher becomes BPF Director of Real Estate

02 October 2009

The BPF's Ian Fletcher has been appointed to a new expanded role as director of real estate.

Fletcher, 43, will now oversee the BPF’s work on planning, regeneration and sustainability, as well as continuing to manage the commercial and residential portfolio. Financial and investment issues, which make up the rest of the BPF’s extensive range of interests will continue to be managed by Peter Cosmetatos.

Fletcher’s team will consist of James Anderson (covering residential, commercial and insurance issues), Patrick Brown (covering sustainability and construction) and Jonathan Seager (covering planning and regeneration).

Having worked at the BPF for seven years, Fletcher has been widely acclaimed for his work to promote the professional rented sector and bridge the landlord-tenant divide over leasing and service charge issues. The BPF has made major moves over the past 18 months to shift the perception held of landlords, achieving a real step change in the industry.

Liz Peace, BPF chief executive, said:

“You would not recognise the property industry from how it was five years ago. Ian has successfully tackled many of the big issues around how our landlord members relate to their customers and the results are now there for all to see.”

Andrew Pratt, managing director for development at Grainger, said:

“Ian’s work to promote the professional rented sector and help build the profile of our sector has been nothing short of tireless. The level of attention we’re now getting from investors and policy makers is very much down to the unrelenting energy and commitment he has led with at the BPF.”

Rob Harris, commercial director at Dorrington, said:

“In a particularly challenging environment, Ian’s firm grasp of the issues and his calmness under pressure has allowed the property industry to make real progress over the last few years. Our industry’s transparency and fairness has been the cornerstone of the BPF’s approach, and with Ian at the helm of real estate policy we are confident that our reputation and influence will continue to grow.”
