The British Property Federation has thrown its weight behind Property Week’s Campaign for Sustainable Development in support of government planning reforms.
The magazine is urging its readers to spell out why they back the proposed “presumption for sustainable development” for retail, office, industrial, leisure and residential use.
Responses will then be sent to government when consultation on the draft National Planning Policy Framework closes on 17 October.
BPF chief executive Liz Peace said: “The government needs to hear the voice of the property industry loudly and clearly, and to understand exactly why these reforms are vital if we are to deliver the jobs and homes our country needs. I urge all BPF members to back the campaign.”
Property Week editor-in-chief Giles Barrie said: “It is time property stood up for itself. The industry can be one of the drivers for future growth, but not if occupiers, developers and homeowners are stifled by a planning system that has spiralled out of control.”
