What we do

The Killian Pretty Review, published in 2008, looked at how the planning application process can be improved from start to finish. The government’s response to the review endorsed the majority of the recommendations, and resulted in various consultations on how to implement the changes. Taken as a whole, we welcomed both the review and the government's response as the proposed changes will help to simplify the planning system, while introducing greater flexibility for planning applicants.

The Penfold Review was set up to identify whether non-planning consents delay or discourage investment and published the final report in July 2010, and the Government has published its response. We are fully supportive of the proposals in the Penfold Review, many of which have been implemented already.

We responded to a set of planning consultations by Communities and Local Government, which will hopefully implement some of the recommendations of the Killian Pretty Review. You can find them in the 'browse' column on the right.

We launched a guide for the property industry at the end of December 2009, backed by the government, to explain the benefits of planning performance agreements (PPAs), with the key message that PPAs have the potential to give developers greater certainty and confidence in the planning process.

We are working with English Heritage, the Department for Transport and the Department for Communities and Local Government to ensure that the Penfold Review's recommendations are implemented swiftly and efficiently. These changes should be consulted upon in the summer of 2012, and we will, of course, respond.
