KEN ROSS TO CHAIR SCOTTISH PROPERTY FEDERATION

Ken Ross has been appointed as the new chairman of the Scottish Property Federation, trade body for the commercial property industry in Scotland.

Ross is chairman and chief executive of the Elphinstone Group, which carries out commercial and residential development, regeneration and master planning of developments in all parts of Scotland.

He is a former chairman of the forerunner to homes for Scotland, the Scottish house-builders Association, an executive board member of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, and is also a member of CBI Scotland’s planning group.

Speaking at a reception for over 150 SPF members last night in Edinburgh Ross paid tribute to his predecessor as SPF chairman, Dan Macdonald of Macdonald estates. He said:

“Dan, with his drive and involvement, has helped create an organization which now represents over 90% of the active participants in the property world in Scotland. This has taken enormous commitment, application and resource.

“We live in changing times, difficult and challenging for everyone. The liquidity problems of the banks have now cascaded into the real economy and this has affected values, yields and returns for all of us. It is at a time like this, that it is even more important for the Scottish Property Federation to represent the interests of all our members.

“Over the next year, we will be engaging with all stakeholders regarding the changing culture of planning, ensuring that Section 75s are both proportionate and necessary as a consequence of development, to ensure that developers are not being held to ransom.’

Also announced was the appointment of Phil Miller as vice-chairman of the Scottish Property Federation. Phil Miller is both chief executive of Miller Developments, the commercial property arm of the Miller Group Limited, and a main board director of the Miller Group which is the UK’s largest privately owned house-building, property development and construction company.
