What we do
Taxation
Property taxation comes in many forms and is a concern for our members from the perspective of both compliance with the legislation and minimising the burden of taxation as a major cost of the business.
We consider both direct and indirect taxation to be important issues, and we regularly lobby government and Parliament on taxation issues of concern to the property industry. Whilst we believe that it is only right for the property industry to pay its fair share of tax, we continue to respond to members' concerns with the taxation system, and lobby for a fairer and more efficient taxation system for the property industry.
From a property investment perspective, we believe that tax treatment should not distort investment decisions between different investment vehicles, and we continue to lobby to achieve these objectives.
Corporation tax/capital gains tax
We have been prominent in influencing government thinking on the reform of these core business taxes
Empty rates
We are lobbying against the removal of business rate relief on empty commercial properties.
Local property/land values
We are commenting on these as part of a review of local government structures and finance
Stamp duty land tax (SDLT)
We continue to lobby for improvement of administration of this tax, and make representations on the impact of the rate of this tax on the economic activity of the property sector
Value added tax (VAT)
We keep our members up to date with the latest developments and initiatives
