BPF Futures Tomorrow’s Leaders Awards

In common with other industry events, this year's BPF Futures Tomorrow's Leaders Awards has been cancelled in line with Government guidance to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Huge thanks to all those who entered the awards, to our sponsors: Whitbread, M&G Real Estate, Lloyds Bank and Grainger; to LandAid, and to our media partner, Bisnow.

We recognise that BPF members are extremely busy at this time, so we will find a different opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young professionals later in the year.

We have already seen many excellent examples of property businesses acting to support their customers and communities through these unprecedented times, with BPF Futures members playing their part. Please do let us know [LINK] of any concerns that your business has, or actions it is taking, in respect of COVID-19.

The property industry is changing.

Like all business sectors we are, quite rightly, under pressure from our customers, our investors, and the communities we serve to demonstrate that we are a force for good in the world.

This year’s Tomorrow’s Leaders Awards will meet this challenge head-on and will showcase the positive impact that future real estate leaders are making in the here-and-now.

To lead the social value agenda, BPF launched the Redefining Real Estate campaign in 2019. It’s a long-term programme of change built around four pillars:

  • Safeguarding the environment
  • Reinvigorating and strengthening communities
  • Nurturing a skilled and diverse workforce
  • Creating wealth and contributing to a productive economy

In line with these key themes, the BPF Futures Tomorrow’s Leaders awards categories are:

BPF Futures Sustainability Award – Sponsored by Lloyds
As long-term investors in towns and cities, the property industry is a vital steward of the environment and will be central to tackling the climate crisis. This award recognises an individual or team that has delivered a project with sustainability at its heart. This could involve encouraging ‘clean growth’, enhancing biodiversity, reducing carbon footprint, solving environmental challenges in partnership with customers, or any other initiative to make a business, a place or the industry more sustainable.

BPF Futures Community Impact Award – Sponsored by M&G Real Estate
The real estate industry creates and maintains the physical fabric of thriving communities across the UK – places that are cohesive, safe, healthy and active. This award recognises someone that has delivered a project that has made a real positive impact locally working in partnership with local people and organisations, whether public sector stakeholders, community groups or local businesses.

BPF Futures Better Business Award
The property industry is determined to become more diverse and inclusive, allowing it to recruit and retain the brightest and best, to better serve the communities in which it works, and to spur business success through encouraging creativity and freedom of thought. This award recognises someone who has personally driven projects that have contributed to a more positive culture within their workplace. This could mean work to implement or enhance an organisation’s values, to support colleagues through formal or informal programmes, or to attract and retain a greater range of talent.

BPF Futures Innovation in Business Award – Sponsored by Whitbread
UK real estate is fundamental to the economy, creating modern workplaces, enhancing productivity, and delivering inclusive growth across the UK. This award recognises someone who has worked on a ground-breaking idea or project that has helped achieve greater business success – either for their own business, that of a client, or for a local economy. This could mean the development of a new service or product that disrupts the status quo, achieving success through collaboration with clients or contractors, or tackling a long-standing business issue in an innovative way.

In addition, two further awards will be given out on the evening:

LandAid Award - Sponsored by Grainger plc
This award recognises a committed and talented individual who has made an outstanding contribution to LandAid’s mission to end youth homelessness.

We are looking for passion, dedication, innovation, creativity, a commitment – plus evidence of successful fundraising, awareness raising campaigns, and / or outstanding contributions to LandAid’s Free Property Advice Programme. This award is to celebrate the fantastic work and dedication of LandAid’s supporters, partners and Ambassadors.

To enter – we want to know:

  • What inspired you / the nominee to support LandAid? What makes you / them passionate about our cause?
  • What have you / the nominee actually done and how do you think you / they have gone above & beyond? i.e. smashing a fundraising target, organising an innovative event or successful campaign, or dedicating time to the Free Property Advice Programme to support LandAid’s mission
  • What impact have you / they had? What difference has their work made?
  • How have you / the nominee demonstrated innovation and fresh thinking?
  • Why do you think what you’ve / they’ve done is inspiring?

BPF Futures ‘One to Watch’ Award
This special award recognises an outstanding individual who our judges believe is demonstrating huge potential to shape the future of real estate. They could have initiated or led a ground-breaking project, demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities, achieved a step-change in how their business works, or be a role-model or champion for the industry within and outside of the sector. Please don’t apply for this award – the winner will be chosen from all the nominations received.

2019 Winners

  • Victoria Merton, Director of Corporate Affairs, The Peel Group
  • Mike Philips, Editor, Bisnow

We will accept nominations from:

  • any individual who has fewer than 10 years’ experience working within the real estate industry, or
  • a team or organisation where the nominated team leader or project director has fewer than 10 years’ experience working within the real estate industry.
  • Entries are welcome from private sector, public sector, or not-for-profit organisations working in the UK property sector.
  • We welcome nominations from professionals who are not BPF Futures members (although, you really should join! Find out more about the BPF Futures community and sign up here).
  • Nominations must relate to projects that were completed in 2019.
  • You can enter the awards on behalf of yourself, nominate a colleague or be nominated by a fellow real estate professional.
  • Please do not make a nomination for the One to Watch Award. This is a special ‘judges’ choice’ award to recognise an exceptional individual or team that will be chosen from all the entries received.

Nominations will close at 6pm on Friday 3 April.

Submissions should be no more than 600 words. You may also include up to two pages of supporting material – these could be testimonials, references, press clippings or anything else that you think will bring your submission to life.

Top tips for writing a winning nomination:

  1. Be clear but concise. Only the first 600 words of your submission will be judged, so make them count!
  2. Consider the big picture. The judges are looking for clear examples of how your project fits within the objectives of Redefining Real Estate, so think about the broader social and economic impact that you have had, not just the effect on your business.
  3. Tell the whole story. Assume that the panel of judges knows nothing! Outline the aims of your project, why it mattered to your clients, how you completed it, and how you overcame any challenges along the way.
  4. Demonstrate success. Show the positive impact that you made with evidence of how your objectives were met using key performance indicators, testimonials or client feedback.
  5. Highlight what you have done differently. The panel of judges want to see evidence of creative problem solving, innovation and new approaches.

Submit a nomination.
