Ian Fletcher, director of policy (real estate) at the British Property Federation, comments on the first details of the Mayor for London's 'Homes for Londoners' team: “We welcome the Mayor's new housing body, as it strikes the right balance between being able to tap into expertise and pulling it all together, whilst not creating something that is too unwieldly.

“Given that almost a quarter of private new home starts in London last year were for build to rent developments, we would hope to see this sector engaged in future discussions. Build to rent is attractive to investors, can be delivered quickly, and is a sustainable housing solution for those who cannot afford to buy and will play an important part in the capital’s housing solution.

“As we said in our Mayoral Housing Manifesto, if we are to deliver new homes at scale, it is vital to get public and private sector working together, and we hope that this is at the forefront of discussions. Our members have led the way in working with public bodies on public land, and this should be encouraged and incentivised.”
